AMD Shares Rally on Upgraded AI Outlook, But Face Near-Term Technical Resistance

Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ: AMD) shares jumped on Wednesday, driven by a significantly upgraded long-term outlook for its artificial intelligence business. The stock was trading at $522.90, a gain of 3.39%, as investors repriced the company's future earnings potential based on the new forecasts.
Upgraded AI Outlook Fuels Rally
The rally followed updated guidance from AMD's management, which now projects the total addressable market (TAM) for AI to reach $2 trillion by 2030. According to a report from Investing.com, the company also anticipates its data-center revenue will roughly double by 2027.
This optimistic outlook was reinforced by Wall Street. Analyst firm CLSA raised its price target on AMD to $710 from a previous $575, citing expectations of stronger demand and pricing for its MI-455 GPUs.
Technicals Signal Potential Pullback
While the fundamental picture has improved, technical indicators suggest the stock may be due for consolidation or a pullback. Longer-term signals remain strong, with daily and weekly Relative Strength Index (RSI) readings around 60.5 and 62.2, respectively, indicating healthy upward momentum without being excessively overheated.
AdHowever, on a shorter-term hourly basis, the RSI has climbed to 74.9 and the Stochastic oscillator is at 81.7. Readings above 70 on the RSI and 80 for Stochastics are widely considered to signal overbought conditions, which can precede a temporary dip as traders take profits.
Key Price Levels to Watch
The immediate challenge for the stock is a technical resistance zone near $527.35. A sustained move above this level could signal further upside, with the next potential target identified around $542.34.
Should a pullback occur, initial support is seen near $516.55. A more significant retreat could test the daily pivot point around $501.56, a level that would need to hold to maintain the immediate bullish structure.
