Airbus Faces Spanish Strikes, Threatening Jet Delivery Goals

Airbus is facing widespread strikes across its Spanish operations through the end of July as unions protest over pay and working conditions, adding pressure to the aerospace giant as it navigates supply-chain constraints and a tight production schedule.
Details of the Dispute
The labor action, which will run until the end of July, was initiated by the Independent Union of Aviation Professionals (SIPA) on July 1. According to a statement from the union, the strike addresses several key grievances from employees, including:
- Pay increases that are below the rate of inflation.
- Stricter monitoring of employee attendance.
- New requirements for office staff to spend more time working on-site, reducing remote work flexibility.
The strike reportedly began at Airbus's major Getafe plant near Madrid before gaining support and spreading to other company sites across the country.
Potential Production Headwinds
AdThis industrial action comes at a critical time for Airbus, which is under significant pressure to meet its annual delivery target of 870 jets. The company is already contending with persistent supply-chain challenges, and prolonged labor disputes could further jeopardize its production timeline.
The situation in Spain follows similar protests and work stoppages at Airbus facilities in France last month, which also centered on reductions to remote work policies for white-collar employees.
Threat of Further Action
While CCOO, Airbus's largest union in Spain, has not joined the current strike, it has warned of more significant disruption to come. The union stated it would call an indefinite strike beginning September 7 if its own demands are not met.
"If no agreement is reached, delivery schedules will be seriously affected by the strike and the industrial action taking place during the final four months of the year at all Airbus Spain sites," CCOO said in a statement. Airbus employs more than 14,000 people in Spain across eight sites, where it manufactures military transport aircraft and components for commercial planes and satellites.
