AI Chip Startup Positron Valuation Quadruples to $5 Billion in $875 Million Funding Round

Positron AI, a startup developing specialized processors for artificial intelligence models, announced Thursday it has raised $875 million in a new financing round. The deal more than quadruples the company's valuation to $5 billion in just seven months, signaling intense investor appetite for challengers in the AI hardware market.
The company was previously valued at $1.06 billion following a $230 million fundraise in February, according to data from PitchBook. This latest capital injection highlights the rapid growth and high stakes in the AI inference sector, where companies aim to compete with market leader Nvidia.
Funding Details
The financing was structured in two parts, according to Positron. It included a $375 million Series C round at a $3.5 billion pre-money valuation and a subsequent $500 million Series C-1 tranche.
The round was co-led by a consortium of prominent investors, including:
- NEA
- Atreides Management
- Valor Equity Partners
- Andra Capital
- SemiAnalysis Capital
- Jim Clark, founder of Silicon Graphics
AdAdditional participants included Qatar Investment Authority, Cisco Investments, and Naver Ventures. As part of the deal, representatives from NEA, Atreides Management, SemiAnalysis, and the Jim Clark Office will join Positron's board of directors.
Strategic Roadmap
Positron stated the proceeds will be used to fund the final design stages of its next-generation chip, codenamed "Asimov," with a production target set for the second half of 2027. This chip is central to its planned AI inference system, "Titan," which the company said will combine four to eight Asimov chips in a single node.
The company aims for the Titan system to be capable of serving AI models exceeding 16 trillion parameters and with context windows larger than 10 million tokens. In the interim, Positron confirmed it is currently deploying its first-generation system, "Atlas," with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
