Background

Shares of Aehr Test Systems (NASDAQ:AEHR) surged in premarket trading Thursday after the company announced a follow-on production order from its lead silicon photonics customer. The news sent the stock up by as much as 15.9% as investors reacted to the signal of sustained demand for the company's semiconductor test and reliability equipment.

Order Fuels AI Infrastructure Growth

The order is for a fully automated FOX-XP wafer-level burn-in system, which is critical for testing silicon photonics devices at scale. These components are essential for next-generation optical interconnects used in AI processors and hyperscale cloud data centers, enabling higher bandwidth and lower power consumption than traditional electrical connections.

Aehr stated the system is configured to test up to nine 300mm wafers in parallel and includes a fully automated aligner, allowing for hands-free operation. This follow-on order comes after the customer, which develops devices for optical I/O architectures, successfully installed and qualified its first FOX-XP production system in fiscal 2026.

Management Commentary

"The successful installation and production qualification of our first fully-automated system with this customer represents another important milestone in our long-term relationship with them," said Gayn Erickson, President and CEO of Aehr Test Systems, in a statement.

Erickson added that the order represents an "encouraging start to fiscal 2027" and reflects the customer's continued confidence in Aehr's technology platform. The company noted that the expansion of AI infrastructure is accelerating the need for advanced optical interconnect technologies, underpinning the demand for its testing solutions.
