Acerinox Stock Hits 52-Week High on Strong Profit Turnaround

Shares of Acerinox surged to a 52-week high on Wednesday after the Spanish stainless steel manufacturer reported a decisive return to profitability for the first half of 2026, driven by operational improvements and a recovery in European demand.
The Madrid-listed stock climbed as much as 7.8% to €17.74, touching a fresh 52-week high of €18.105 during the session, according to Investing.com data.
Earnings Beat Drives Rally
Acerinox announced before the market open that it had generated a net income of €77 million for the January-to-June period. This marks a significant reversal from the €18 million net loss posted in the first half of 2025.
The company's operational performance underpinned the strong results. Group EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) rose 27% compared to the prior-year period, while revenue reached approximately €2.97 billion. Steelmaking production also increased by 2% to 1.03 million tonnes.
Operational Strength and Outlook
Management attributed the turnaround to several factors, including a strong performance from its U.S. business and improving conditions in Europe. Key drivers included:
Ad- The successful integration of Haynes International, which generated over $16 million in synergies in its second year.
- A progressive recovery in European demand.
- The positive impact of new trade-defense measures, which helped to reduce pressure from imports.
Adding to investor confidence, Acerinox's management provided upbeat guidance, stating that it expects third-quarter 2026 EBITDA to be slightly above the level seen in the second quarter. This forward-looking statement suggests the operational momentum is expected to continue.
Market Context
The rally in Acerinox shares was a company-specific event, standing in contrast to the broader market trend. Spain's benchmark IBEX 35 index traded modestly lower on the day.
Furthermore, no significant news was released by key sector peers such as Aperam or Outokumpu, ruling out a sector-wide catalyst. The stock's strong performance was based solely on its earnings report and positive outlook, reflecting a market re-evaluation of the group's improved earnings trajectory.
