Wickes Shares Surge Over 10% on Strong First-Half Results and Confident Outlook

Shares in Wickes Group (LSE:WIX) surged more than 10% on Tuesday after the UK home improvement retailer announced solid first-half results that met market expectations and confirmed its positive outlook for the full year.
First-Half Performance Boosts Confidence
In its interim results for the 26 weeks ending June 27, 2026, Wickes reported a 2.1% increase in revenue to £865.3 million. The company also posted a 1.1% rise in adjusted profit before tax to £27.6 million.
Crucially for investors, Wickes management reaffirmed its full-year guidance, stating the company remains on track to meet consensus expectations for approximately 10% growth in adjusted profit before tax for 2026. This confidence was further signaled by a 2.8% increase in the interim dividend to 3.7 pence per share.
Market Reaction and Context
The positive earnings report triggered a sharp re-rating of the stock, which had recently been trading near its 52-week low. Wickes shares climbed 10.3% to 194.73 pence, as investors reacted to the strong fundamentals and unwound previously bearish positions.
AdThe retailer's performance stood in stark contrast to the broader market. Wickes' gains came on a day when the mid-cap FTSE 250 index, to which it belongs, fell by 0.6% amid wider concerns over oil prices, rising bond yields, and geopolitical risk. The company-specific news allowed its stock to defy the negative macroeconomic sentiment.
Underlying Business Strength
A key driver of the positive results was the performance of the Design & Installation division, which covers kitchens and bathrooms. According to the report, this segment saw revenue rise to £225.5 million from £213.4 million in the prior year, marking its fifth consecutive quarter of delivered sales growth.
The combination of revenue growth, a dividend increase, and a credible full-year profit target provided a strong catalyst for the shares, leading to one of their sharpest single-day gains in recent months.
