Wheat Futures Decline on Profit-Taking Amid Black Sea and Harvest Updates

Summary
Wheat prices fell in overnight trading as investors took profits, while markets monitored diplomatic efforts in the Black Sea and potential weather-related harvest delays in Ukraine.
Wheat futures contracts declined in overnight trading ahead of the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) open, with market analysts pointing to profit-taking as the primary driver for the downward pressure.
Market Snapshot
Market participants saw broad-based declines across the major U.S. wheat contracts on Tuesday. The price action reflects a pullback after recent movements, a common occurrence in commodities markets as traders lock in gains.
- CBOT December soft red winter wheat fell 7-1/2 cents to $7.19-1/4 per bushel.
- K.C. December hard red winter wheat dropped 11-1/4 cents to $7.83-1/4 per bushel.
- Minneapolis December spring wheat was down 8-1/4 cents at $7.38 per bushel.
Black Sea Supply Routes in Focus
Geopolitical developments in the Black Sea region continue to influence grain market sentiment. The Kremlin confirmed on Tuesday that further diplomatic contacts have occurred regarding Turkey's proposal for ensuring safe grain passage. The traditional Black Sea shipping route has faced disruptions from Ukrainian drone attacks.
AdIn response, Russia is actively working to establish alternative export channels. According to reports, Russia's Arctic port of Murmansk is preparing to ship its first grain cargo from the country's south as early as next month, repurposing equipment typically used for fertilizer loading.
Ukraine Harvest Progress and Weather Concerns
On the supply side, Ukraine's agriculture ministry reported that as of Tuesday, the country has harvested 33 million metric tons of grain from 7 million hectares, which represents 61% of the total planted area.
However, the pace of the remaining harvest could be at risk. The farmers’ union UAC issued a warning that heavy rainfall is forecast across much of Ukraine for at least the next week. Analysts at the union noted this weather pattern will likely cause substantial slowdowns in the harvesting of late-season grains and oilseeds.
