Volvo Cars Warns EX60 Production Target Will Be 'Very Difficult' to Hit This Year

Summary
The automaker acknowledged that a tougher-than-expected production ramp-up is jeopardizing its goal of building 40,000 EX60 units in the current year. CEO Hakan Samuelsson also signaled potential delays in the company's battery factory plans.
Volvo Cars has acknowledged significant challenges in its production ramp-up for the new EX60 model, stating that its original output goal for the year will be “very difficult” to achieve.
EX60 Target in Doubt
Speaking at a strategy update in Stockholm on Thursday, Chief Executive Officer Hakan Samuelsson said the company's production ramp-up has been “slightly tougher than anticipated.” As a result, Volvo faces an uphill battle to meet its stated goal of manufacturing 40,000 units of the EX60 by the end of this year.
Production delays for new vehicle models, particularly electric vehicles with complex supply chains, can impact revenue forecasts and customer delivery timelines. This announcement signals a potential headwind for the company's near-term sales volume.
AdBattery Strategy Faces Delays
Beyond the immediate vehicle production issues, Samuelsson also addressed the company's broader electrification strategy. He commented that it is “increasingly difficult to see a battery factory happening quickly.”
While Volvo Cars still intends to maintain a degree of control over its battery production, the CEO noted this objective might take longer to realize than the company had anticipated a year ago. This suggests potential shifts or postponements in its vertical integration plans for the critical electric vehicle component.
