Vicor Lifts Q3 Revenue Guidance on AI Tech Licensing, Shares Surge

Summary
Vicor Corporation raised its third-quarter revenue growth forecast, citing higher-than-expected royalties from a new AI technology licensing deal. The power component manufacturer's stock jumped over 11% in after-hours trading following the announcement.
Vicor Corporation (NASDAQ: VICR) sharply increased its revenue guidance for the third quarter, citing higher royalties from a recent technology licensing agreement. The news sent the company's shares climbing over 11% in after-hours trading on Wednesday.
Guidance Upgraded
The Andover, Massachusetts-based company now projects sequential revenue growth of more than 30% for the third quarter of 2026. This is a significant increase from its previous forecast of more than 20% growth, according to a company announcement on September 30.
Vicor attributed the improved outlook to higher royalties from its first non-exclusive license for its Vertical Power Delivery (VPD) technology. The license was granted to an unnamed AI OEM on September 17.
AI Licensing Strategy
Vicor's VPD is an advanced power architecture designed to enhance efficiency and reduce power loss for high-performance processors, a critical component in AI data centers. The technology works by mounting current multipliers directly underneath the processor.
AdThe company's licensing model allows the new licensee to procure VPD modules from unlicensed suppliers. However, Vicor noted that licensees who purchase VPD modules directly from the company may receive substantial discounts on royalties for commodity modules sourced from other suppliers. Vicor stated this practice provides OEMs and hyperscalers with multi-source flexibility and supply chain redundancy.
Market Context
The positive revision highlights the growing demand for specialized power solutions driven by the expansion of artificial intelligence infrastructure. Efficient power delivery is a key challenge in scaling high-performance computing systems, placing companies with patented solutions like Vicor in a potentially advantageous position.
Vicor's technology is also utilized in the industrial, transportation, aerospace, and defense sectors. The market's strong reaction to the guidance update underscores investor focus on companies poised to benefit from the build-out of AI capabilities.
