Viavi Solutions Stock Jumps on Key Department of Defense Cybersecurity Certification

Summary
Shares of the network testing and measurement company gained more than 6% after its Aerospace and Defense division secured a critical certification required for U.S. defense contracts.
Shares of Viavi Solutions (NASDAQ: VIAV) surged in morning trading after the company announced a key cybersecurity certification for its defense-focused division, a critical step for securing and maintaining contracts with the U.S. Department of Defense.
The stock climbed nearly 6.0% to an intraday high of $40.85, a move driven by company-specific news while the broader S&P 500 index remained flat.
Defense Business Unlocks Key Certification
Viavi announced on September 24 that its Aerospace and Defense division completed the Level 2 Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC). This is a mandatory compliance standard established by the U.S. Department of Defense to ensure contractors can protect Controlled Unclassified Information on their systems.
The certification, which was assessed by the accredited third-party organization A-LIGN, covers several of the company's core product lines, including:
- Radio test and avionics
- Synthetic and modular instruments
- Position, Navigation and Timing (PNT) products
Ad"Achieving CMMC Level 2 certification reflects our dedication to safeguarding the sensitive information that underpins national security and reinforces our role as a trusted partner to the U.S. Defense Industrial Base," said Doug Russell, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Aerospace and Defense at Viavi.
Market Impact and Outlook
The certification is a significant catalyst for investors as it preserves and expands Viavi's ability to compete for lucrative defense contracts. The positive news builds on an already strong foundation, including the company's fiscal 2026 results which featured 40% full-year revenue growth and a fourth-quarter earnings beat.
Recent positive sentiment from Wall Street analysts has also provided a tailwind. According to financial news trackers, an analyst issued a favorable rating update on September 23, adding to a constructive consensus view on the stock. Viavi also plans to extend the CMMC certification to its Inertial Labs product lines, which it acquired in 2025, signaling a continued focus on expanding its defense compliance and market presence.
