Background

Viaplay Group reported a return to profitability in the second quarter, with net sales climbing to SEK 5.51 billion, as the entertainment provider announced a strategic sale of its Dutch operations to concentrate on its core Nordic markets.

Second-Quarter Financials

The Sweden-based company posted a net income of SEK 70 million for the quarter, a significant turnaround from the net loss recorded in the same period last year. Operating income for the second quarter reached SEK 253 million, according to its latest financial report.

The growth was supported by a 7% increase in organic streaming subscription sales. Viaplay attributed this performance to a higher average revenue per user (ARPU) and a stable subscriber base, driven by demand for its premium sports and local content offerings.

As part of a strategy to strengthen its balance sheet and focus on its primary markets, Viaplay announced an agreement to sell its Dutch operations for EUR 142 million. The company stated the move will help reduce its net debt and streamline its business around the Nordic region.

Cost management also contributed to the positive results. Viaplay noted that cost efficiencies and initial synergies from the integration of Allente helped to offset inflationary pressures on content costs. The company expects the Allente integration to deliver annual cash synergies of SEK 300-400 million by 2027.

Outlook Maintained

Viaplay confirmed it is maintaining its financial targets for 2026. The company also reiterated its long-term ambition of achieving a double-digit EBITDA margin by 2028, signaling confidence in its refocused strategy.
