Background

Vantage, a multi-asset broker, has announced the launch of a new contract for difference (CFD) product that allows for around-the-clock trading of gold. The new offering, designated XAUUSD247, provides eligible clients with access to the precious metal market seven days a week, moving beyond the traditional trading schedule.

Product Details and Specifications

According to a July 4th announcement, the XAUUSD247 is an over-the-counter (OTC) derivative product available on the MT5 and TradingView platforms, as well as the Vantage mobile app. The product is designed to provide greater flexibility for traders seeking to manage or initiate positions outside of standard market hours.

Key features of the new offering include:

  • Contract Size: A one-ounce contract, which is smaller than the broker's traditional 100-ounce XAUUSD product.
  • Leverage: Tiered leverage of up to 100x may be available, subject to the client's position size, account type, and applicable regulations.
  • Cost: Vantage states there is no separate trading commission, though applicable spreads and financing charges will apply.
  • Risk Management: The product incorporates net and gross exposure limits at the account level. Accounts that reach these thresholds will be placed in a close-only mode.

Market Context and Implications

The introduction of 24/7 gold CFD trading reflects a broader industry trend toward extended market access. The move comes as major exchanges also explore longer trading sessions; for instance, CME Group recently announced its own plans to expand trading of certain gold futures products to 24/7, subject to regulatory review. Vantage's offering is a separate, broker-specific OTC product.

For investors, the ability to trade on weekends provides an opportunity to react to geopolitical or economic news that breaks when traditional markets are closed. However, traders should be aware that liquidity during these non-standard hours can be lower, potentially leading to wider spreads.

"XAUUSD247 provides eligible clients with access to gold CFDs beyond standard market hours, supported by transparent product mechanics and clearly defined trading controls," said Marc Despallieres, Chief Executive Officer at Vantage, in the company's release.
