Turkey's BIST 100 Gains 0.51% to End Week, Led by Banking and Telecoms

Turkey's benchmark stock index, the BIST 100, finished the trading week on a positive note, closing 0.51% higher on Friday. The advance was primarily supported by strong performance in the telecommunications and leasing & factoring sectors, according to data from Investing.com.
Sector Leaders and Laggards
The session's gains were driven by a handful of standout performers. Among the top-performing stocks on the BIST 100 were:
- Turkiye Vakiflar Bankasi TAO (VAKBN): +9.99%
- Turk Telekomunikasyon AS (TTKOM): +9.94%
- Pasifik Teknoloji A.S. (PATEK): +9.92%
In contrast, several companies saw significant declines. The worst performers of the day included Katilimevim Tasarruf Finansman AS (KTLEV), which fell 10.00%, and Pasifik Eurasia Lojistik Dis Ticaret AS (PASEU), which ended the session down 9.99%.
AdMarket Breadth and Currency Context
Despite the positive close for the headline index, the broader market sentiment appeared more cautious. Declining stocks on the Istanbul Stock Exchange outnumbered advancing ones by a margin of 364 to 259, with 22 issues ending unchanged. This divergence suggests the index's rise was not broad-based and was instead lifted by gains in a select number of heavily weighted companies.
In currency markets, the Turkish lira was mixed. The USD/TRY pair rose 0.14% to 48.60, while the EUR/TRY pair declined by 0.11% to 56.44. The session also saw a notable drop in global energy prices, with Brent crude oil futures falling nearly 3%.
