TSMC Second-Quarter Revenue Jumps 36% on Surging AI Chip Demand

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) reported a significant surge in second-quarter revenue, underscoring the relentless demand for advanced chips powering the artificial intelligence sector. The world's largest contract chipmaker announced that revenue for the three months ending June 30 rose 36% year-on-year to T$1.270 trillion ($39.63 billion).
Quarterly Performance Details
The strong quarterly result was bolstered by an exceptional performance in June, where revenue jumped nearly 68% year-on-year to T$442.68 billion. For the first six months of the year, TSMC's total revenue increased by nearly 36% to T$2.40 trillion, according to company figures.
The release of its June revenue data was postponed to Monday from its originally scheduled Friday release due to disruptions from Typhoon Bavi, the company noted.
AdAI as a Key Growth Driver
TSMC's impressive growth is directly linked to the booming AI industry. The company is a crucial supplier for leading AI firms like Nvidia, manufacturing the high-performance processors essential for training and running complex AI models. This position has allowed TSMC to capitalize on the outsized investment flowing into AI infrastructure globally.
As a bellwether for the global semiconductor industry, TSMC's performance is closely watched by investors for signals about broader technology trends. These strong revenue figures precede the company's full second-quarter earnings report, where market participants will look for detailed margin and profit analysis. Beyond the Q2 results, the market's focus will be on TSMC's forward-looking guidance for the coming quarters.
