Tesla Shares Fall 3%, Testing Critical Support Amid Bearish Technical Signals

Background

Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) shares declined sharply by 3.0% in trading Monday, with the stock price testing a critical support level as technical indicators flashed bearish warnings. The move has put the price zone between $390–$393 in focus for investors and traders.

Bearish Technicals Take Hold

According to an analysis by Investing.com, the decline on the four-hour chart formed a bearish engulfing candle. This pattern occurs when a large red (down) candle completely engulfs the prior green (up) candle, suggesting that sellers have aggressively taken control from buyers.

Several other technical indicators reinforced the bearish outlook:

  • The stock price was trading below both its 20-period moving average ($400.03) and 50-period moving average ($406.68), which are often viewed as short-term trend indicators.
  • The Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) indicator, a popular momentum gauge, crossed into negative territory.

Key Levels for Investors

The immediate test for the stock is the support cluster at $390–$393. A sustained break below this level could open the door for a more significant decline, with the next major support identified near the $370 mark, according to the analysis.

However, the report also highlighted a low reading of 13 on the Average Directional Index (ADX). A low ADX typically signals a weak or choppy trend, raising the possibility of false moves or a "bear trap," where the price briefly drops below support before reversing higher. This suggests that confirmation, such as a breakdown on high trading volume, will be a key factor for market participants.
