Tesla Launches 'High-Volume' Semi Truck Production, Targeting 50,000 Units Annually

Summary
Tesla has commenced high-volume production of its electric Semi truck at a new dedicated factory in Nevada, with an annual production goal of 50,000 vehicles, CEO Elon Musk announced.
Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) has begun what CEO Elon Musk described as “high-volume production” of its electric Semi truck. The announcement came during an event on Thursday inaugurating the company's new, dedicated Semi factory in Sparks, Nevada.
Production and Capacity Goals
According to Musk, the new Nevada facility is targeting an annual production run of 50,000 electric trucks. The factory, which is Tesla's first to be dedicated solely to the Semi, reportedly began initial production in late April, as stated by company executives at the event.
In a pre-recorded video, Musk emphasized the economic advantages of the vehicle, citing the lower cost-per-mile of electricity compared to diesel fuel. He also noted that the waiting list for the truck was “already pretty significant,” signaling strong initial demand.
Major Corporate Orders
Tesla has already secured substantial orders from several major corporations. Company executives identified early customers including:
Ad- PepsiCo
- U.S. Foods
- DHL
Recent order data from the transportation nonprofit Catalyst Mobility shows a coalition of companies, including Microsoft and PepsiCo, has placed an order for 2,500 Semis. This follows a separate order for 500 trucks from the Swedish freight technology firm Einride.
Future Developments
Looking ahead, Musk confirmed that the Semi will eventually be equipped with Tesla’s autonomous driving features. The integration of self-driving technology is a key part of the company's long-term vision for disrupting the commercial freight and logistics industry.
