TC Energy Shares Decline as Investors Assess Mexico Pipeline Sale

Summary
TC Energy's stock is trading lower as the market continues to evaluate the financial impact of its recent agreement to sell a major natural gas pipeline in Mexico for C$560 million.
Shares of TC Energy Corp. (TRP) fell on Tuesday as investors weighed the implications of the company's recently announced asset sale against a backdrop of broader market weakness.
The stock traded down 0.4% to C$84.46 during the session, with market participants continuing to digest the news of its pipeline divestment in Mexico.
Mexico Asset Divestment
Earlier this week, TC Energy announced it had agreed to sell its Guadalajara-Manzanillo Pipeline to affiliates of ESENTIA Energy Development. The transaction carries a gross purchase price of C$560 million (approximately US$400 million).
The 313-kilometre pipeline is a key asset, transporting up to 500 million cubic feet per day (MMcf/d) of natural gas to industrial customers and power plants in western Mexico. While CEO François Poirier framed the deal as part of the company's "continued focus on portfolio optimization," investors appear to be cautiously assessing the near-term impact on revenue. The transaction is not expected to close until the first half of 2027, creating a period of uncertainty regarding how the proceeds will be redeployed.
AdMarket and Technical Headwinds
The stock's decline was compounded by a challenging market environment, with major North American indices, including Canada's S&P/TSX Composite, trading lower. TC Energy's peers in the energy infrastructure sector, such as Enbridge and Pembina Pipeline, also faced downward pressure amid a wider risk-off tone.
From a technical perspective, TC Energy's stock is exhibiting bearish momentum, trading below both its 50-day and 200-day moving averages. The shares remain significantly below their 52-week high of C$100.18, reflecting a broader pullback from peak valuations earlier in the year.
