Talon Metals Stock Surges Over 30% on Record High-Grade Nickel Discovery

Talon Metals (TLO) stock surged more than 30% on Tuesday after the company announced record-setting assay results from its Tamarack Nickel-Copper-Cobalt Project in Minnesota. The news, released after Monday's market close, sent shares to a new 52-week high, sharply outperforming a declining broader market.
Record Drill Results
The rally was triggered by results from drill hole 25TK0562A, which the company reported as the longest combined intercept of its kind ever recorded at the Tamarack project. The drill returned a 46.43-meter interval of massive and mixed massive sulphide mineralization.
Key assay results from the intercept include:
- 13.37% nickel (Ni)
- 16.54% copper (Cu)
- Significant concentrations of cobalt, palladium, platinum, and gold
In a statement, CEO Darby Stacey highlighted the discovery's strategic value, noting that "beyond the grades themselves, the step-out distance must be highlighted and underscores the potential strategic importance of Tamarack as a future domestic source of critical minerals."
AdMarket Reaction
Shares of Talon Metals closed up 30.6% at C$10.89, after touching a new 52-week high of C$11.03 during the session. The stock's performance was a stark contrast to the wider Canadian market, with the S&P/TSX Composite Index falling approximately 0.9%.
This divergence underscores that the rally was a company-specific event driven by the exploration results, rather than a broader market or sector trend. U.S. equity markets also traded lower, providing no supportive tailwind.
Favorable Backdrop
The positive drill results add to a series of constructive developments for the company. In August, TD Securities reiterated a Buy rating and raised its price target on the stock to C$8.50 from C$7.50. Furthermore, Talon reported its first profitable quarter in Q2 2026, driven by operations at its Eagle Mine in Michigan, and recent filings have indicated director-level insider buying.
