Taiwan's TAIEX Index Ends Flat as Tech and Energy Gains Offset Losers

Summary
Taiwan's benchmark stock index closed with a marginal gain on Friday, as strength in the technology and energy sectors was largely counteracted by steep declines in other individual stocks.
Taiwan's stock market ended Friday's session nearly unchanged, with the benchmark Taiwan Weighted Index (TAIEX) posting a marginal gain of just 0.06%. The flat close reflected a divided market, where strength in specific sectors was offset by significant losses elsewhere.
Sector and Stock Performance
Gains in the Oil, Gas & Electricity, Computers & Peripherals, and Other Electronic sectors provided the primary support for the index, according to closing data from Investing.com. However, the narrow overall advance suggests that market sentiment was mixed across the broader exchange.
Among the session's top performers were:
- ADLINK Technology Inc (TW:6166), which surged 10.00% to an all-time high of 159.50.
- Chung Fu Tex-International Corp (TW:1435), adding 9.90% to close at 21.10.
- Taiflex Scientific Co Ltd (TW:8039), which also reached an all-time high, climbing 9.87% to 256.00.
AdConversely, several companies experienced sharp declines. HUA YU LIEN Development Co Ltd (TW:1436) was the session's worst performer, plunging 14.24% to a three-year low of 38.85. Other notable decliners included Cosmo Electronics Corp (TW:2466) and Hocheng Corp (TW:1810), both of which fell by nearly 10%.

In commodities, energy prices were trading lower. Crude oil for September delivery fell 0.66% to $91.58 a barrel, while the Brent oil contract for September delivery dipped 0.33%. Gold futures for August delivery also declined, falling 0.61%.
In the currency markets, the U.S. dollar strengthened slightly against the New Taiwan dollar, with the USD/TWD pair rising by 0.15% to 32.37. The US Dollar Index Futures, which measures the greenback against a basket of major currencies, was unchanged at 101.29.
