Background

Analysts on Wall Street issued a series of notable stock upgrades this week, focusing on companies they believe are either attractively mispriced after recent declines or strategically positioned to outperform.

Analysts Target Value After Sell-Offs

Some of the most significant calls centered on stocks that have recently underperformed the broader market, creating what analysts see as compelling entry points for investors.

  • First Solar (FSLR): Deutsche Bank upgraded the solar panel manufacturer to Buy with a $272 price target. The firm noted the stock’s 27% collapse since June 1 has created a valuation gap, especially for a company with a $2.1 billion net cash position. The bank expects the discount to narrow as the market gains clarity on earnings and tariff policy.
  • Five Below (FIVE): Mizuho raised the discount retailer to Outperform with a $220 price target, arguing a recent 30% drop in the share price is an overreaction. The firm pointed to strong underlying unit economics, with average store volumes growing, and effective social media engagement as drivers for future growth.

Other upgrades focused on companies whose business models and market positions provide a distinct advantage in the current economic environment.

T-Mobile (TMUS) was upgraded to Buy by BofA Securities, which maintained a $220 price objective. The bank believes the market overestimates the threat from low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite internet, arguing T-Mobile's dominant market share in dense urban areas insulates it from the technology's limitations. BofA also highlighted the company's pricing flexibility as a key advantage.

In the energy sector, Evercore upgraded Occidental Petroleum (OXY) to Outperform with a $65 price target. The upgrade was driven by a structural improvement in capital efficiency and a de-levered balance sheet, which Evercore believes fundamentally improves the company's free-cash-flow profile.

Ahead of homebuilder earnings, Citi upgraded Toll Brothers (TOL) to Buy with a $176 price target. The firm is betting on the luxury segment of the housing market, where Toll Brothers is the only pure-play public builder. Citi sees the company as uniquely positioned to capture demand from affluent buyers, insulating it from broader affordability challenges.
