Background

Sweden's primary stock index advanced at Tuesday's close, lifted by gains in commodity-linked and industrial shares. The OMX Stockholm 30 index rose 0.62%, with the oil and gas, basic materials, and industrial sectors providing the main impetus for the move, according to data from Investing.com.

Top Movers

Mining and smelting company Boliden (ST:BOL) was the session's standout performer, surging 6.33% to close at 584.80 Swedish kronor. Other notable gainers among the index's blue-chip components included:

  • Industrial technology firm ABB (ST:ABB), which climbed 2.46% to end at 958.40.
  • Engineering group Sandvik (ST:SAND), which gained 2.31% to finish at 402.40.

Sector Laggards and Market Breadth

Despite the index's positive close, selling pressure was evident in other areas of the market. Fashion retailer H&M (ST:HMb) was the weakest performer on the index, falling 2.08% to 169.80. It was joined by pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca (ST:AZN), which shed 1.28%, and investment company Lifco (ST:LIFCOb), which declined 1.20%.

The broader market sentiment on the Stockholm Stock Exchange was more cautious, as decliners outnumbered advancers by a margin of 409 to 312, with 77 stocks closing unchanged. This suggests the day's gains were concentrated in a handful of large-cap stocks rather than being broad-based.

Commodity and Currency Markets

The rally in commodity-related stocks coincided with strength in energy markets. WTI crude oil futures for October delivery rose 0.96% to $92.36 per barrel, while November Brent crude futures gained 0.55% to $97.53 per barrel. In contrast, gold futures for December delivery traded lower.

In currency markets, the Swedish krona was relatively stable. The EUR/SEK pair was nearly flat at 11.15, while the USD/SEK was also little changed at 9.59. The U.S. Dollar Index, which measures the greenback against a basket of major currencies, edged down 0.30%.
