Background

Streamex Corp. (NASDAQ: STEX) announced its gold-backed, tokenized security is now available to accredited investors through traditional brokerage accounts, a move aimed at making digital assets more accessible to mainstream finance. The collaboration with Siebert Financial allows the yield-bearing digital gold product to be purchased without requiring clients to use crypto wallets or have direct blockchain knowledge.

Details of the Partnership

The initiative, detailed in a June 29 announcement, brings together three firms to facilitate the offering. Under the agreement:

  • Streamex serves as the issuer of the security, named `$GLDY`.
  • Siebert Financial, a FINRA-member broker overseeing approximately $20 billion in client assets, will handle distribution to its clients.
  • tZERO, a regulated digital-securities platform, will act as the custodian for the asset.

This structure enables Siebert's brokers to offer the tokenized gold product to eligible clients alongside conventional investments like stocks and bonds.

The `$GLDY` security is backed by physical gold and is designed to provide holders with a yield of up to 3.5% per year, according to Streamex. The company stated that this yield is generated by lending the underlying gold to commercial users such as jewelers and refiners. Returns are distributed monthly in the form of additional gold, allowing an investor's holdings to compound.

This development comes amid growing investor interest in the tokenization of real-world assets (RWAs), which brings traditional assets like commodities onto blockchain platforms. For existing digital asset users, `$GLDY` also offers 24/7 secondary trading on the Solana-based decentralized exchange, Orca.

Broader Strategy

This partnership represents the latest step in Streamex's plan to broaden access to tokenized commodities. "Putting $GLDY into a brokerage account is a major step... because it meets traditional investors exactly where they already are," said Henry McPhie, Co-Founder & CEO of Streamex, in the announcement.

Streamex also confirmed it is developing a retail-focused version of its digital gold product that would be accessible to non-accredited investors. The company noted these plans are for a future product that is not yet available and is subject to change. The `$GLDY` security is currently offered to verified accredited investors under Rule 506(c) of Regulation D.
