Background

Streamex Corp. (NASDAQ: STEX) has made its gold-backed tokenized security available through traditional brokerage accounts, a move aimed at bridging the gap between digital assets and mainstream wealth management. The development, announced on June 29, allows accredited investors to gain exposure to a yield-bearing digital gold product without directly interacting with cryptocurrency exchanges or digital wallets.

Bridging TradFi and Digital Assets

The offering is a collaboration between three firms. Streamex issues the tokenized security, $GLDY, while FINRA-member broker Siebert Financial, which oversees approximately $20 billion in client assets, will handle distribution. The asset custody is managed by tZERO, a regulated platform for digital securities.

This partnership enables Siebert's brokers to offer the tokenized gold product to eligible clients within a standard investment portfolio, alongside traditional stocks and bonds. The structure removes the technical barriers often associated with digital asset investment, such as setting up a crypto wallet or navigating blockchain protocols.

The $GLDY Security

The $GLDY token is a regulated security designed to offer investors direct exposure to gold with an added return. According to Streamex, the product has the following features:

  • It pays a variable annual yield of up to approximately 3.5%, distributed monthly.
  • The yield is paid in additional gold, compounding the holder's physical gold allocation over time.
  • Returns are generated by lending the underlying physical gold to commercial users like jewelers and refiners.
  • The security is currently available only to verified accredited investors under Rule 506(c) of Regulation D.

Market Strategy and Outlook

This initiative is the latest step in Streamex's strategy to broaden access to tokenized commodities. The $GLDY security was initially launched in February and began secondary trading on the Solana-based decentralized exchange Orca in May. The addition of a traditional brokerage channel targets institutional and wealth management clients.

"Putting $GLDY into a brokerage account is a major step... because it meets traditional investors exactly where they already are," said Henry McPhie, Co-Founder and CEO of Streamex, in the announcement. The company stated it is also developing a retail version of the digital gold product, which it plans to make accessible to a wider audience through decentralized exchanges.

This move comes as tokenized real-world assets (RWAs), particularly gold, gain traction among both crypto-native and traditional investors. By building channels for both audiences, Streamex aims to capitalize on the growing demand for hard assets that can be held digitally and generate a yield.
