Streamex Makes Tokenized, Yield-Bearing Gold Available Through Brokerage Accounts

Streamex Corp. (NASDAQ: STEX) announced its gold-backed, tokenized security, $GLDY, is now accessible through traditional brokerage accounts, a move aimed at making digital commodities available to mainstream investors. The development, effective June 29, allows accredited investors to gain exposure to a yield-bearing gold product without needing specialized crypto wallets or blockchain expertise.
A Bridge to Traditional Investing
The offering is a collaboration between three firms. Streamex issues the $GLDY security, the regulated digital-securities platform tZERO provides custody, and the FINRA-member broker Siebert Financial handles distribution to its clients. Siebert Financial oversees approximately $20 billion in client assets.
This partnership allows Siebert's brokers to offer the tokenized gold security alongside conventional assets like stocks and bonds. For investors, this streamlines the process of adding digital assets to a traditional portfolio, removing common barriers to entry associated with the crypto market.
Understanding the $GLDY Security
$GLDY is a regulated security available to verified accredited investors that is backed by physical gold. It is designed to offer features not typically associated with traditional gold investments, such as exchange-traded funds (ETFs) or physical bullion.
AdKey features of the $GLDY security include:
- Yield: The security offers a variable yield of up to approximately 3.5% per year, paid monthly.
- In-Kind Payments: The yield is distributed in additional gold, allowing an investor's holdings to compound over time.
- Yield Generation: The return is generated by lending the underlying physical gold to commercial users, such as jewelers and refiners.
- 24/7 Trading: In May, Streamex enabled round-the-clock secondary trading for $GLDY on the Solana-based decentralized exchange Orca.
Market Context and Future Plans
This initiative places Streamex at the intersection of the $13 trillion global gold market and the growing trend of tokenizing real-world assets (RWAs). The company's strategy involves progressively widening access to its products, first to direct buyers, then to on-chain traders, and now to clients of traditional wealth managers.
"Putting $GLDY into a brokerage account is a major step... because it meets traditional investors exactly where they already are," said Henry McPhie, Co-Founder and CEO of Streamex, in a statement. The company stated its next step is to develop a retail-focused version of its digital gold product, which would be accessible to a broader range of investors and tradeable on various decentralized exchanges.
