Background

Streamex Corp. (NASDAQ: STEX) announced on June 29 that its gold-backed, tokenized security, known as $GLDY, is now available for purchase through ordinary brokerage accounts. This development aims to make digital commodity trading more accessible to traditional investors.

The offering is a collaboration involving three firms. Streamex issues the $GLDY security, the regulated digital-securities platform tZERO provides custody, and the FINRA-member broker Siebert Financial, which oversees approximately $20 billion in client assets, handles distribution. This allows Siebert brokers to offer the tokenized gold security to eligible clients alongside conventional stocks and bonds.

According to Streamex, the $GLDY security is designed to offer a yield of up to roughly 3.5% per year, which is distributed monthly and paid in additional gold. The company states this model allows a holder's gold assets to grow over time. This initiative follows the product's launch in February and its addition to the Solana-based decentralized exchange Orca for secondary trading in May.

Currently, $GLDY is a regulated security available only to verified accredited investors. However, Streamex has indicated plans to build a broader tokenization platform for real-world assets, beginning with commodities. The company stated its next step is to develop a retail-focused version of its digital gold product that would be accessible to a wider audience.
