Stellantis to Invest Over €1 Billion in French Van Plant, Report Says

Stellantis NV (NYSE: STLA) plans to invest more than €1 billion (approximately $1.16 billion) to manufacture a new commercial van at its factory in northern France, according to a Bloomberg report citing people familiar with the matter. The move is part of a significant overhaul of the automaker's European production footprint.
Investment Details
The planned capital expenditure will focus on upgrading the existing plant in Hordain, France. The investment will also support research and development activities elsewhere in the country to facilitate the production of the new vehicle, the sources told Bloomberg.
As part of the efficiency drive, Stellantis is expected to increase automation at the Hordain facility. The company also reportedly plans to vertically integrate parts of the manufacturing process that are currently outsourced to suppliers, bringing them back in-house.
A Wider European Revamp
AdThis investment represents a key component of a broader strategic revamp of Stellantis's European operations under CEO Antonio Filosa. The automaker is in the process of preparing for dozens of new model launches while simultaneously addressing industrial overcapacity and controlling costs.
The investment signals a substantial commitment to the company's French manufacturing base as it restructures its production network across the continent to improve profitability and adapt to market shifts.
Market Reaction
Investors responded positively to the news. Shares of Stellantis gained 3% during Friday's trading session following the publication of the report.
