Background

Signet Jewelers (NYSE: SIG) shares surged in pre-market trading Wednesday after the diamond jewelry retailer announced second-quarter results that beat analyst estimates and raised its full-year profit outlook. The company also revealed a new accelerated share repurchase program, providing multiple catalysts for the stock.

Strong Results and Raised Outlook

For the second quarter, Signet reported adjusted earnings per share of $2.19, significantly outpacing the consensus analyst estimate of $1.72. Revenue came in at $1.5 billion, which was broadly in line with the $1.53 billion consensus.

The company's performance was supported by a 2.2% increase in same-store sales and a roughly 6% rise in the average price of merchandise sold. Signet also demonstrated improved profitability, with its adjusted operating margin expanding to 7.0% from 5.6% in the same period a year earlier.

Buoyed by the strong quarter, management lifted its forecast for fiscal 2027. Signet now expects adjusted earnings per share in the range of $10.45 to $12.15, an increase from its prior guidance of $9.20 to $11.00 and above the analyst consensus of $10.82.

Capital Returns and Market Reaction

Alongside the earnings report, Signet announced a new $125 million accelerated share repurchase program, signaling confidence in the company's value and a commitment to returning capital to shareholders. The company also renewed its consumer credit partnership.

CEO J.K. Symancyk stated that Signet is "entering the back half of the year well-positioned to deliver compelling value throughout the holiday season for customers across a broad range of income levels."

Investors reacted positively to the news, sending the stock up 10.7% in pre-open trading. The move was entirely company-specific, occurring even as broader market indexes like the S&P 500 and Dow Jones were pointing to a lower open. The rally also marked a significant sentiment shift for the stock, which had fallen approximately 12.5% over the past month.
