SanDisk Stock Surges on Bullish Analyst Call and S&P 100 Inclusion

Summary
Shares of the memory chip maker jumped after Rosenblatt Securities initiated coverage with a 'Buy' rating, citing a pivotal role for its NAND technology in AI infrastructure.
Shares of SanDisk Corporation (NASDAQ: SNDK) surged more than 6% on Tuesday morning after the memory specialist received a favorable new analyst rating and benefited from its recent addition to the S&P 100 index.
The stock climbed as high as $1,884.32 in morning trading, a move that stood in contrast to a largely flat broader market, underscoring strong company-specific catalysts.
Rosenblatt Cites AI Transformation
The primary driver for the rally was Rosenblatt Securities initiating coverage on SanDisk with a Buy rating and a $2,400 price target. In a note to clients, analyst Kevin Cassidy argued that the rise of artificial intelligence is fundamentally repositioning NAND flash memory from a simple storage commodity to a "system-critical component of AI infrastructure."
Rosenblatt's thesis highlights that expanding AI models are increasing demand for memory that prioritizes density, performance, and endurance over the lowest possible cost. The firm pointed to SanDisk’s technology as a key advantage:
- SanDisk's BiCS8 and BiCS10 platforms are expected to improve storage density with fewer 3D layers than competitors.
- This technological edge could help SanDisk sustain cost and performance leadership in the high-value enterprise storage market for AI.
Index Inclusion Adds Buying Pressure
AdAdding to the positive momentum, SanDisk was officially included in the S&P 100 index on Monday, September 21. This milestone compels index-tracking investment funds to purchase the company's shares to align their portfolios with the index's composition, creating a significant source of demand.
The market also appeared to absorb news of a recent insider sale. CEO David Goeckeler sold approximately $53.3 million worth of shares on September 17 under a pre-arranged Rule 10b5-1 trading plan, a development that did not dampen investor sentiment.
Sector Sentiment Remains Constructive
SanDisk's advance comes amid a supportive environment for the memory sector, which continues to benefit from a persistent NAND flash supply shortage and robust demand from AI data centers. Peers such as Micron and SK Hynix have also seen investor interest as the market anticipates Micron's upcoming earnings report.
Despite Tuesday's sharp increase, the stock remains below its 52-week high of $2,354.39, leaving room for further appreciation if the fundamental tailwinds from the AI industry continue to materialize as projected by analysts.
