Samsung Stock Surges on AI Chip Production Gains and US Tech Rally

Summary
Shares in the South Korean electronics giant gained 2.7% amid reports of significant improvements in its advanced memory chip production, coinciding with a broad AI-fueled rally in US technology stocks.
Samsung Electronics (KS:005930) shares rose sharply on Tuesday, closing up 2.7% as investors reacted to positive company-specific developments and a powerful rally in artificial intelligence-related stocks on Wall Street.
AI Enthusiasm Lifts Chip Sector
The gains in Seoul followed a strong overnight session in the U.S., where the Nasdaq Composite index jumped to a new all-time high. According to a report from Investing.com, the U.S. rally was driven by optimism surrounding artificial intelligence, particularly following the viral popularity of Meta's (NASDAQ:META) Muse AI agent, which spurred bets on higher demand for advanced chips and computing power.
This positive sentiment created a favorable tailwind for global semiconductor heavyweights, including Samsung. The broader South Korean KOSPI index also benefited, climbing 1.7% during the session.
Production Breakthroughs Boost Outlook
AdFueling the rally were company-specific reports indicating significant progress in Samsung's manufacturing of next-generation memory. Key developments included:
- An improvement in the production yield for its High Bandwidth Memory (HBM4) chips to approximately 80%, up from below 60% in earlier stages.
- This increase in efficiency is expected to expand supply and enhance profitability for the crucial AI-focused component.
- As a result, Samsung's third-quarter revenue from HBM4 is projected to increase more than threefold compared to the previous quarter, according to the report.
Strong Export Data Provides Support
The positive news for Samsung comes amid a booming national semiconductor market. Data for the first 20 days of September showed that South Korea's semiconductor exports reached a record high, growing an unprecedented 259% year-over-year. This robust macroeconomic backdrop further reinforces the positive outlook for the country's leading chipmakers.
