In a statement, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova accused NATO of prioritizing the "militarisation of the European continent" and "preparation for an armed conflict with Russia." She warned that the "irresponsible decisions... could lead to a catastrophe not just for the alliance, but for the whole world."
During the summit, NATO members committed to providing €70 billion ($80 billion) in military assistance to Ukraine for 2026. In a summit declaration, the alliance also unveiled arms deals valued at a minimum of $50 billion and reaffirmed its "ironclad commitment" to collective defense under its Article 5 pact.
AdZakharova also commented on what she described as "cracks" between the United States and its NATO partners, suggesting American disappointment with the bloc over various issues.
In response to questions about internal disputes, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte suggested that open disagreements among leaders demonstrate the alliance's democratic strength. In an interview, Rutte contrasted this with Russia's political environment, stating, "I would say to Putin: You should have some more discussions yourself, out in the open."
