Rocket Lab Shares Surge on Record 20-Mission Launch Agreement

Summary
Shares of the aerospace company climbed after it announced its largest-ever commercial launch contract with Earth observation firm Synspective and a new mission for its upcoming Neutron rocket.
Rocket Lab (RKLB) shares surged 5.2% in pre-open trading after the company announced its largest single commercial launch agreement in history, a multi-year, 20-mission deal with Japanese Earth observation firm Synspective.
Record Synspective Deal
The landmark agreement covers the launch of 20 StriX synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellites for Synspective. The missions are scheduled to take place between 2028 and 2031 from Rocket Lab’s New Zealand launch facility using its workhorse Electron rocket.
This contract significantly expands the partnership between the two companies, bringing Synspective's total contracted missions to 47 and making it Rocket Lab's biggest customer by mission count. The deal also pushes Rocket Lab’s total launch backlog beyond 100 missions for the first time, a key milestone that provides investors with greater long-term revenue visibility.
Neutron Rocket Gains Momentum
Compounding the positive news, Rocket Lab also announced a separate dedicated launch contract for its upcoming Neutron medium-lift rocket. The mission was secured with Canadian telecom operator Kepler Communications.
AdThis new contract adds another key commercial customer to the manifest for the Neutron vehicle ahead of its anticipated debut. For investors, this signals growing market confidence and commercial traction for Rocket Lab's next-generation launch platform.
Broader Market Context
The stock's advance was supported by a favorable macroeconomic backdrop, as softer inflation data pulled Treasury yields lower and improved risk appetite for growth stocks. The broader commercial space sector also saw renewed enthusiasm, with peer AST SpaceMobile trading higher.
Institutional conviction in Rocket Lab also appears to remain strong, with the source noting recent share accumulation by investors like ARK Invest and significant existing positions held by major funds such as BlackRock.
