Rivian Automotive reported record vehicle deliveries for the third quarter, surpassing analyst expectations and sending its shares higher in premarket trading. The electric vehicle maker reaffirmed its full-year production forecast, signaling steady operational performance amid a challenging market.
Deliveries Surpass Estimates
The Irvine, California-based company announced Friday it delivered 19,248 vehicles in the third quarter ended September 30, 2026. This figure exceeded the average analyst estimate of 18,001 deliveries, according to data compiled by Visible Alpha.
During the same period, Rivian produced 19,751 vehicles at its manufacturing facility in Normal, Illinois. Following the announcement, shares of the EV manufacturer rose approximately 2.3% in premarket trading.
Full-Year Guidance Maintained
Rivian maintained its 2026 delivery forecast of 65,000 to 70,000 vehicles, stating that its quarterly production and delivery figures were in line with its expectations. The company's guidance aligns with the average analyst projection of 66,685 vehicle deliveries for the full year.
AdThe company had previously increased its annual forecast in July, citing stronger-than-anticipated demand. Investors will receive a more detailed financial overview when Rivian reports its full third-quarter results on October 29.
Navigating a Challenging EV Market
The strong delivery numbers come as the company continues the rollout of its lower-priced R2 SUV, which began reaching customers in June and is considered by analysts to be essential to Rivian's growth plans. The R2 is designed to expand the company's customer base beyond its premium R1S SUV and R1T pickup truck.
Rivian's performance is notable as the broader electric vehicle sector contends with significant headwinds. These challenges include the elimination of certain federal EV tax credits, tariffs, and reduced consumer demand across the industry.
