Revolut Secures Banking License in Colombia, Eyes 2027 Launch

British financial technology company Revolut has obtained a banking license in Colombia, clearing the final regulatory hurdle for its expansion into the key South American market. The company plans to begin its banking operations in the country in 2027, according to a source familiar with the matter.
Strategic Expansion and Investment
Revolut announced on Tuesday that it received the license from Colombia’s banking authorities, a move that solidifies its entry into the region. In a statement, the company said it will invest an additional $62 million in Colombia, doubling its initial commitment.
The new capital is earmarked for developing digital banking infrastructure and financial technology. This investment underscores the company's strategy to establish a significant presence in Latin America's growing fintech landscape.
AdMarket Demand and Global Context
Revolut's planned launch is supported by strong local interest, with the company reporting that nearly 200,000 Colombians are currently on a waiting list for its platform. This pre-existing demand signals a potentially rapid uptake of its services upon launch.
The expansion into Colombia is part of Revolut's broader global growth. The fintech firm currently serves more than 80 million customers worldwide, and the addition of a Colombian banking operation will further extend its international footprint.
