Background

Shares of Redeia (BME:RED) fell 2.3% after the Spanish transmission system operator released first-half financial results that aligned with consensus estimates and its full-year guidance. The market's negative reaction suggests investors may have anticipated a stronger performance or had already priced in the in-line results.

First-Half Financials

Redeia reported a first-half earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) of €673 million, a 6% increase year-over-year. However, this figure included a €24 million one-off benefit from a regulatory accounting change in Spain. Excluding this item, underlying EBITDA was €649 million.

The company noted that the regulatory adjustment was fully offset at the operating income level by a corresponding increase in depreciation, resulting in no net impact on EBIT. Net income for the period rose 4% year-over-year to €280 million, positioning Redeia to meet its full-year target of over €510 million.

Balance Sheet and Market Outlook

The company also improved its balance sheet, with net debt decreasing by approximately 10% since the start of the year to €5.0 billion. This reduction was achieved as proceeds from a recent hybrid bond issuance and the receipt of subsidies more than covered increased capital expenditures.

Despite the solid performance, the results did not appear to shift investor sentiment. According to a note from Goldman Sachs analysts cited by Investing.com, the results were not expected to "materially change market expectations." The share price decline indicates that meeting consensus was not enough to drive the stock higher, potentially as investors looked for a significant earnings beat to justify current valuations.
