Purplebricks Revenue Rises 7% Despite Subdued UK Housing Market

UK property franchiser Purplebricks reported a 7% year-over-year increase in first-half revenue, demonstrating resilience amid a challenging housing sales market. The company also announced an 8% rise in adjusted basic earnings per share and a 10% increase in its interim dividend, signaling confidence in its financial position.
First-Half Financials
In its latest financial disclosure, Purplebricks detailed its performance for the first half of the fiscal year:
- Revenue: Grew to £43.30 million, up 7% from the prior-year period.
- Adjusted EBITDA: Reached £16.20 million.
- Adjusted Pretax Profit: Came in at £15.50 million.
- Adjusted Basic Earnings Per Share (EPS): Rose by 8% to £0.13.
The company attributed its steady performance to the stability of its diversified, franchised business model and its base of recurring revenue.
Drivers of Growth
AdAccording to CEO Gareth Samples, the expansion of platform initiatives such as Privilege and MarketMore were key contributors to the revenue uplift. The company's Financial Services division was a notable bright spot, with revenue increasing by 10%, bolstered by the successful acquisition and integration of SAFS.
This growth in ancillary services highlights the company's strategy of diversifying its income streams beyond core property sales, providing a buffer against volatility in the broader housing market.
Outlook and Market Context
Looking ahead, Purplebricks stated that it expects full-year trading to be in line with market expectations. The company anticipates that the sales market will remain subdued, but noted that its existing sales-agreed pipeline will support completions in the second half of the year.
Conversely, Purplebricks expects its lettings business to benefit from ongoing structural demand and a supportive regulatory environment. This dual outlook suggests the company is leveraging its different business segments to navigate a complex macroeconomic landscape.
