Prediction Markets See Millions in Wagers on Anthropic IPO Details

Heavy trading on prediction markets is offering an early glimpse into investor sentiment for Anthropic's highly anticipated initial public offering. Before the AI company's stock officially lists, traders are wagering millions on key details of the debut, signaling significant interest in what could be a landmark event for the tech sector.
Gauging IPO Fever
Prediction markets, which allow users to place binary "yes" or "no" bets on the outcomes of future events, have become a hotbed of activity surrounding the Anthropic IPO. According to a Reuters report, tens of millions of dollars in volume have been recorded across platforms like Polymarket and Kalshi.
Key markets attracting significant capital include:
- A Polymarket contract on the timing of the IPO, which had drawn $6 million in trading volume as of October 28.
- A separate market on Anthropic's closing market capitalization on its first day, which attracted approximately $3 million.
- Other wagers focus on the listing exchange, the lead underwriting bank, and the total funds the company will raise.
A 'Litmus Test' for AI
AdAnalysts view this pre-IPO activity as a modern form of price discovery and a measure of market enthusiasm. "Prediction market interest in Anthropic’s IPO is the financial equivalent of people lining up outside the Apple Store before a new iPhone release," said Michael Ashley Schulman, a partner at Cerity Partners, in a statement to Reuters. He added that the wagers may help the market "zero in on its eventual public market opening price."
The offering is widely seen as a major test of investor demand for artificial intelligence companies. Steve Sosnick, chief strategist at Interactive Brokers, called the IPO a "crucial litmus test about both individual and institutional investors’ appetite for AI." He noted that prediction markets are "clearly becoming an integral part of many investors’ approach to financial risk management and speculation."
Market Context
Anthropic, the AI lab behind the Claude series of models, took a major step toward its public listing by unveiling its IPO filing earlier this week. The listing could value the company at between $1.5 trillion and $2 trillion, according to a previous Reuters report.
Prediction markets are increasingly moving into traditional financial territory, offering a venue for speculation on corporate events typically dominated by institutional investors. While retail participation in IPOs has grown, individual investors are often allocated only a small fraction of high-profile offerings, making these markets an alternative way to gain exposure to the event.
