Poland to Outline Strategic Oil Reserve Release by End of November

Poland will develop a timeline for releasing its strategic oil and fuel reserves by the end of November, though it sees no urgent need for an immediate drawdown, Energy Minister Milosz Motyka said on Tuesday.
The country intends to coordinate its actions with other nations and plans to hold consultations with Nordic countries and the Netherlands on a potential release strategy, according to Motyka's statement.
IEA Coordination and Poland's Stance
Poland's plan is part of a broader, coordinated effort by members of the International Energy Agency (IEA). On October 15, the IEA announced that the total volume of reserves released by its members would exceed the 400 million barrel target originally agreed upon in March. Member countries are committed to releasing the remaining approximate 100 million barrels based on their individual circumstances.
However, Poland has not yet finalized its specific contribution. "We have indicated that we will develop a release schedule separately, but this plan is not yet complete," Motyka said, reiterating that the country does not currently perceive an urgent need to tap its reserves.
AdGeopolitical Considerations
Poland's cautious approach is influenced by its unique geopolitical position. The country submitted a dissenting opinion during a recent IEA governing board meeting, citing its "special situation" and the inherent risks associated with its role in supplying fuel to neighboring Ukraine.
This context highlights a potential divergence in urgency among IEA members, as Poland balances its international commitments with national security and regional stability concerns. The final schedule will be a key indicator of how Warsaw intends to manage these competing priorities.
