Pirelli Board Approves €1 Billion Expansion of Georgia Tire Plant

Summary
Pirelli will invest €1 billion to expand its Rome, Georgia, manufacturing facility, aiming to boost production of high-value tires and create approximately 1,000 new jobs.
Pirelli & C. S.p.A. announced its Board of Directors has approved a €1 billion investment plan to significantly expand its manufacturing facility in Rome, Georgia. The multi-year project is designed to bolster the company's production of high-end tires to meet growing demand in the U.S. market.
Project Scope and Timeline
The expansion is scheduled to begin in 2027 and reach completion by 2033. According to the company's announcement, the project will increase the plant's annual production capacity to approximately 6 million car tires and is expected to create around 1,000 new jobs.
The development will be executed in two phases. The first will increase robotized production using Pirelli’s proprietary Modular Integrated Robotized System (MIRS), reaching a capacity of 3 million tires per year starting in 2028. A second, fully automated conventional production facility will then add another 3 million tires to the plant's annual output.
Strategic Focus on US Market
This investment underscores Pirelli's strategy to strengthen its local production capabilities and meet rising demand for technologically advanced tires in the United States. The company noted that the U.S. accounts for about 40% of global volumes in the High Value tire segment.
AdThe expanded facility will manufacture products incorporating advanced features, including the company's sensor-equipped Cyber Tyre system. Pirelli stated it will not alter its 2026 financial targets, and the capital expenditure-to-revenue ratio for the 2027-2033 period is expected to remain consistent with previous years.
Board Vote and Corporate Changes
The investment plan received majority approval from the board, though the company disclosed that board members Zhang Haitao, Xi Xiaohong, and Wang Kun voted against the measure.
Concurrent with the investment news, Pirelli announced organizational changes that include the elimination of the Corporate General Management function. The company confirmed the termination of Francesco Tanzi’s employment as Corporate General Manager, effective December 31, 2026.
