Pinterest Stock Falls Over 8% as CEO Warns of International Headwinds

Pinterest Inc. (PINS) shares tumbled more than 8% on Wednesday after Chief Executive Officer Bill Ready highlighted ongoing challenges in the company's international business. The comments, made at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference, sent the stock to its lowest intraday price since May 21.
International Pressures Cited
Speaking at the conference, Ready detailed two primary headwinds impacting Pinterest's operations outside the United States. He noted that new regulations in Europe have created limits for cross-border sellers from Asia, affecting a key part of the platform's commerce ecosystem.
Additionally, Ready confirmed the company is actively restructuring its international business and go-to-market strategy. These remarks echoed similar statements he made during the company's second-quarter earnings call in August.
Restructuring for Long-Term Growth
AdThe CEO explained that the international overhaul is based on a successful strategy previously implemented in the U.S. That effort involved significant improvements to Pinterest's AI-driven advertising platform and a revamped sales approach.
"We’re basically taking that playbook from the US," Ready said, according to Investing.com. He acknowledged that the changes would likely cause disruption in the short term. "That will create some near-term pain to restructure those things, but we think is very good for us in the medium to long term," he added.
Ready also stated that there is "a lot more" work to be done to improve the monetization of its international user base, signaling that the process is still in its early stages.
