Oslo OBX Index Closes Down 1.00% on Weakness in Transport, Media Sectors

Norwegian stocks finished lower on Thursday, with the benchmark Oslo OBX index closing down by 1.00%. The decline was primarily driven by broad weakness in the Media, Transport, and Diversified Financials sectors, according to market data.
Sector and Stock Performance
The session's downturn was led by notable losses among shipping and transport companies. On the Oslo Stock Exchange, declining stocks outnumbered advancers 127 to 114, with 32 ending unchanged, indicating wider selling pressure across the market.
Among the worst performers on the index were:
- Frontline Ltd (OL:FRO), which plunged 5.41% to trade at 351.60 at the close.
- Hafnia Ltd (OL:HAFNI), which declined 4.42% to end the session at 68.05.
- Hoegh Autoliners ASA (OL:HAUTO), down 3.77% to 145.50.
AdBucking the negative trend, Nordic Semiconductor ASA (OL:NOD) was a top performer, rising 1.60%. Seafood company SalMar ASA (OL:SALM) also posted gains, adding 1.45%.
Broader Market Context
The slide in equities coincided with a drop in energy prices, a key factor for the Norwegian economy. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude for August delivery was down 1.55% to $72.38 per barrel. Brent crude, the international benchmark, saw its September contract fall 1.24% to $77.05 per barrel.
In foreign exchange markets, the Norwegian krone strengthened slightly against major currencies. The EUR/NOK pair was down 0.15% to 11.12, while the USD/NOK pair fell 0.31% to 9.73.
