Summary
Sweden's benchmark stock index, the OMX Stockholm 30, closed at a new record on Tuesday, gaining 0.87% on the back of strong performance from industrial and basic materials companies.
Swedish stocks advanced to a new peak on Tuesday, with the benchmark OMX Stockholm 30 index climbing 0.87% to close at an all-time high. The gains were primarily driven by strong performance in the Industrials, Basic Materials, and Oil & Gas sectors, according to market data.
Market Performance Details
The rally showed narrow market breadth, as rising stocks on the Stockholm Stock Exchange only slightly outnumbered decliners by a margin of 366 to 362, while 60 issues ended the session unchanged. This indicates that while the main index posted a solid gain, sentiment was more mixed across the broader market.
Construction company Skanska AB (SKAb) was the session's top performer on the index, surging 4.50% to close at 285.50, also a record high. Other notable gainers included:
- Atlas Copco AB (ATCOa): +3.47%
- H & M Hennes & Mauritz AB (HMb): +3.35%
AdTelecom Stocks Lag
In contrast to the broad industrial strength, the telecommunications sector faced significant selling pressure. Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (ERICb) was the index's worst performer, falling 3.77% to close at 96.52. Other major telecom stocks also ended the day lower, with Tele2 AB declining 1.71% and Telia Company AB falling 1.55%.
Currency and Commodity Context
The equity market gains came as the Swedish krona weakened against major currencies. The USD/SEK pair rose 0.44% to 9.87. In commodities, crude oil futures for November delivery edged lower by 0.71% to $91.71 a barrel, while the Brent oil contract for November delivery fell 0.10% to $100.24 a barrel.
