NVIDIA Stock Faces Technical Resistance, Testing Strength of Recent Uptrend

NVIDIA (NVDA) stock is at a technical crossroads as its strong upward momentum confronts a potential short-term reversal pattern. Shares have recently pulled back to around $228.41, down nearly 2.7% from recent highs, after failing to break through significant resistance, according to chart analysis.
A Double Top vs. a Strong Trend
The primary concern for short-term traders is the formation of a potential double top pattern, a bearish technical signal, at the $234.75 resistance level. This pattern suggests that the recent rally may be losing steam. Supporting this cautious view are several indicators:
- A reversal "doji" candlestick pattern appeared at the peak, often signaling indecision or a potential change in direction.
- Momentum indicators like the Relative Strength Index (RSI) are cooling from overbought levels, recently reading 60.37.
- The Volume-Weighted Average Price (VWAP) has begun to cross above the stock price, which can be a near-term bearish signal.
Key Support Levels Remain Intact
Despite the short-term warnings, the broader uptrend for NVIDIA remains firmly in place. The stock continues to trade above all its key moving averages (20, 50, and 200-period), a classic sign of bullish market structure. Furthermore, the Average Directional Index (ADX) stands at 31.01, a reading that indicates a strong, established trend is in effect.
AdFor the uptrend to continue, bulls will need to defend a primary support zone between $223.12 and $224.18. This area represents a confluence of the 20-period simple moving average and the 23.6% Fibonacci retracement level, making it a critical floor for the current price structure.
What Investors Are Watching
The current price action places NVIDIA in a zone of indecision between approximately $228 and $232. A decisive move out of this range could set the tone for the next leg.
A confirmed break above the $234.75 resistance would invalidate the double top pattern and signal a likely continuation of the rally. Conversely, a failure to hold the support zone around $224 could lend credence to the bearish reversal scenario, potentially opening the door for a deeper correction toward the next significant support level identified at $217.64.
