Northwest European Gasoline Margins Climb to $52 Per Barrel

Gasoline refining margins in Northwest Europe climbed by approximately $3 on Monday, reaching a robust $52 per barrel amid a dynamic trading session.
Refining margins are a key indicator of profitability for oil refiners, and the significant level suggests strong demand for the motor fuel relative to the cost of crude oil.
Brisk Trading Activity
The increase in margins was accompanied by significant trading volume in the region's physical barge market. According to market reports, activity on Monday included:
- Approximately 10,000 metric tons of E5 gasoline barges changing hands. Exxon and Equinor were reported as sellers to a group of buyers including Gunvor, Varo, Aramco, and Vitol.
- An additional 10,000 metric tons of E10 barges were traded, with Totsa and Shell selling to Exxon and Varo.
AdIn separate deals conducted within the Platts price assessment window, Exxon sold an E5 barge to Trafigura. Glencore also sold a Mediterranean gasoline cargo to BP.
Geopolitical Context
Market movements occurred as participants monitored geopolitical developments. On Monday, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Ukraine and Russia had agreed not to strike each other’s energy infrastructure.
Any sustained reduction in threats to energy facilities in the region could impact market sentiment regarding supply stability, though the immediate effect on refined product prices remains complex.
