Northrop Grumman Secures $508.5M DoD Contract for Missile Defense Support

Northrop Grumman Corp. (NYSE: NOC) has been awarded a $508.5 million contract from the U.S. Department of Defense to provide flight test and logistics support for the nation's Missile Defense System, the department announced.
Missile Defense Contract Details
The noncompetitive contract tasks the aerospace and defense giant with supporting flight tests for Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile (IRBM) and Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) targets. It also includes integrated logistics support for broader Missile Defense System testing.
The work is scheduled to be performed from September 2026 through August 2035. The Missile Defense Agency in Huntsville, Alabama, awarded the contract and has obligated an initial $8.8 million from fiscal 2026 research, development, test, and evaluation funds.
Key details of the award include:
- Total Value: $508.5 million
- Performance Period: Sep. 2026 – Aug. 2035
- Work Locations: Chandler, Arizona; Corinne, Utah; and Elkton, Maryland.
Additional Submarine Maintenance Award
AdIn a separate award, Northrop Grumman Systems Corp.-Marine Systems secured a contract initially valued at $111.4 million for work on the U.S. Navy's Virginia-class nuclear-powered attack submarine fleet. The contract covers maintenance, overhaul, repair, and long-lead time material for ship service turbine generators.
This indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract was awarded on a sole-source basis by the Naval Sea Systems Command. The total value could increase to $253.3 million if all options are exercised, with work expected to be completed by August 2031, or August 2034 with options.
Significance for Investors
These long-term contracts underscore Northrop Grumman's entrenched position as a critical supplier for high-priority U.S. national security programs. The noncompetitive and sole-source nature of the awards highlights the company's specialized expertise and technological capabilities in strategic defense and naval systems, which can be a significant barrier to entry for competitors.
For investors, such awards represent a stable, multi-year revenue stream, adding to the company's backlog and providing long-term visibility into its financial performance. The contracts reinforce Northrop's role in the modernization of the U.S. military's strategic assets.
