Norsk Hydro Stock Gains After Q2 Earnings Surpass Estimates

Summary
Shares of the Norwegian aluminum producer rose after the company reported second-quarter earnings and revenue that significantly topped analyst estimates, driven by higher metal prices.
Norsk Hydro (NHY) shares gained 3.0% in Oslo on Wednesday after the aluminum and renewable energy company reported second-quarter financial results that significantly surpassed analyst expectations, fueled by a sharp increase in metal prices.
Quarterly Results Exceed Forecasts
The company announced its results for the second quarter of 2026 before the market opened, revealing a broad-based beat on key metrics. The performance gave investors renewed confidence in the firm's earnings trajectory heading into the second half of the year.
Key figures from the report include:
- Adjusted EBITDA: NOK 8.9 billion, an increase of approximately 15% from the same period a year earlier.
- Revenue: NOK 56.5 billion, up 6% year-over-year.
- Adjusted EPS: NOK 2.21, a 31.5% jump from Q2 2025 and nearly 30% above the consensus estimate of NOK 1.60.
Norsk Hydro also generated a strong free cash flow of NOK 4 billion for the quarter, according to the release.
Higher Aluminum Prices Boost Performance
AdThe outperformance was primarily driven by the company's Aluminium Metal segment. Adjusted EBITDA for the division surged to NOK 6,421 million from NOK 2,423 million in the second quarter of 2025.
This growth was attributed to a 14% rise in realized all-in metal prices. The company's recycling business also made a meaningful contribution to the improved profitability. A production disruption at the Qatalum joint venture in Qatar impacted volumes but was not significant enough to offset the strength in other areas.
Market Context
Norsk Hydro's stock was the top-performing constituent on the Oslo OBX index during the session. The rally in Oslo occurred even as U.S. equity markets faced downward pressure.
Despite the day's gains, the stock continues to trade significantly below its 52-week high of NOK 120.40, according to market data.
