Newag Stock Surges After Q2 Profit Nearly Doubles

Summary
Shares of Polish rolling stock manufacturer Newag jumped after the company reported a near-doubling of its second-quarter net profit, supported by a rapidly growing order book and a record-setting day on the Warsaw Stock Exchange.
Shares of Newag (NWGP) surged in Monday trading after the Polish train manufacturer released exceptional semi-annual financial results. The stock climbed nearly 9.7% to 108.6 PLN, with a session high of 111 PLN, as investors reacted to a robust earnings beat and a series of major contract wins.
Stellar Earnings Drive Rally
The primary catalyst for the stock's advance was the company's H1 2026 financial report, published after the market close on September 18. The report detailed a significant increase in profitability and revenue.
- Q2 2026 consolidated net profit nearly doubled year-over-year to 147.57 million zł, up from 76.82 million zł in Q2 2025.
- Q2 2026 revenues climbed to 733.15 million zł from 474.61 million zł in the same period a year prior.
For the full first half of 2026, Newag reported a consolidated net profit of 205.48 million zł on revenues of 1.15 billion zł, according to the filing.
Expanding Order Book Signals Growth
AdBeyond the strong earnings, investor confidence was bolstered by Newag's rapidly expanding order book, which points to a strong future revenue stream. In early September, national rail operator PKP Intercity exercised an option for 32 additional locomotives, a deal valued at an estimated 945.6 million zł.
Additionally, Newag secured a new contract with the Podlaskie Voivodeship for hybrid traction units. This agreement has a base value of 95.8 million zł and includes an option that could increase the total contract value to 287.4 million zł, underscoring the company's strong market position.
Broader Market Provides Tailwind
The rally in Newag shares occurred amid a record-setting session on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. A positive sentiment across global and local markets provided a significant tailwind, with the benchmark WIG20 index breaking above the psychologically important 4,000-point level for the first time in its history. The broader WIG and mWIG40 indices also reached all-time highs, creating a favorable environment for equities.
