Netflix Partners With Shopee to Bundle Streaming in Southeast Asia

Netflix (NASDAQ: NFLX) is entering its first e-commerce partnership in Southeast Asia by teaming up with Sea Ltd.'s (NYSE: SE) Shopee, a dominant online retailer in the region. The collaboration aims to bundle the streaming service with a new e-commerce subscription to attract and retain customers in key growth markets.
Partnership Details
According to a joint statement from the companies, the partnership will roll out through a new ShopeeVIP+ subscription program. The service will initially be available to Shopee users in Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines.
Subscribers to the program will receive access to Netflix's content library alongside e-commerce perks. These benefits include unlimited free instant delivery and daily discount vouchers on the Shopee platform. In Indonesia, the bundled subscription will start at 40,000 rupiah per month.
AdStrategic Implications
For Netflix, this move provides a powerful new customer acquisition channel in the competitive Southeast Asian market. By bundling its service with a leading e-commerce platform, Netflix gains direct access to Shopee's vast and digitally-engaged user base, potentially accelerating subscriber growth in a price-sensitive region.
For Sea's Shopee, the partnership significantly enhances the value proposition of its subscription offering. Integrating a globally popular service like Netflix can help increase customer loyalty, drive user engagement, and differentiate ShopeeVIP+ from rival e-commerce platforms in the region.
