Needham Taps Figure Technology as Top Fintech Pick After Strong Q2 Loan Volume

Needham has reaffirmed Figure Technology Solutions (FIGR) as its top conviction pick in the financial technology sector, citing June operating metrics that significantly surpassed expectations. The investment firm maintained its Buy rating and raised earnings estimates for the company following a strong second-quarter performance driven by its loan marketplace.
Loan Volume Surges Past Expectations
Figure Technology reported robust growth in its consumer loan marketplace, which was the primary catalyst for the positive analyst note. The company's performance for the second quarter exceeded both internal guidance and external forecasts.
Key operational metrics reported include:
- June Marketplace Volume: $1.519 billion, a 155% increase year-over-year and well above Needham's estimate of $1.357 billion.
- Total Q2 Marketplace Volume: $4.259 billion, beating the high end of the company’s guidance range of $3.4 billion to $4.1 billion.
Analysts Raise Estimates on Strong Execution
AdIn response to the results, Needham maintained its Buy rating and $55 price target on Figure's stock. Analysts attributed the outperformance to favorable conditions for home equity lines of credit (HELOCs), the solid performance of underlying assets, and the company's focus on execution and capital markets diversification.
The firm raised its earnings per share (EPS) estimates for Figure to $0.90 for 2026 and $1.15 for 2027, up from previous projections of $0.87 and $1.10, respectively. Needham also highlighted the pending acquisition of Kiavi as a potential catalyst, expecting it to be highly accretive to 2027 earnings.
Capital Raise to Fund Acquisition
In a recent corporate development, Figure Technology priced a $600 million offering of 8.5% senior notes due in 2031. The company stated it plans to use the proceeds to fund the cash portion of its acquisition of Kiavi and for general corporate purposes, signaling its continued focus on strategic growth.
