Contract Details

The award focuses on NANO Nuclear’s KRONOS MMR™ Energy System and its potential to address operational challenges within the Department of the Air Force. The contract, which officially began on July 21, 2026, is part of a streamlined process developed through a partnership between the Air Force Research Laboratory and AFWERX.

The Department of the Air Force has been utilizing the Open Topic SBIR/STTR program since 2018 to engage with innovative small businesses and accelerate technology development.

Company leadership emphasized the contract as a key step in its commercialization strategy for the defense sector. According to the announcement, the award strengthens NANO Nuclear's relationship with the Air Force and expands its pathway toward future defense deployment opportunities.
