Minieye Technology Shares Hit Record Low on Discounted Stock Placement

Shares of Minieye Technology plummeted to a record low after the company announced a discounted share placement to raise capital, triggering concerns about the dilution of existing shareholder value.
The stock dropped 11.9% to HK$6.23, a new all-time low for the Hong Kong-listed company. The sell-off ran counter to the broader market trend, as Hong Kong's Hang Seng index gained 1.2% during the same session.
Details of the Placement
Minieye Technology, a firm specializing in intelligent driving systems, said it plans to raise approximately HK$125.4 million (about $16 million). The capital will be raised by issuing 20.13 million new shares to investors.
The placement price of HK$6.23 per share represents a 15% discount to the stock's closing price on Wednesday, a key factor driving the negative market reaction. Such a significant discount makes the new shares more attractive but reduces the value of shares held by current investors.
AdInvestor Concerns and Use of Proceeds
The sharp decline in the share price reflects investor apprehension over capital dilution. When a company issues a large number of new shares, it reduces the ownership percentage of its existing shareholders, which can put downward pressure on the stock price.
Minieye stated that the proceeds from the placement will be used to fund further development in smart driving and what it termed "physical artificial intelligence tech." However, the immediate market focus remained on the dilutive impact of the capital raise rather than the company's long-term growth plans.
